Four seasons

With the opening of the school year and in order to establish a good relationship with my students I would ask them to study the following myth from Greek Mythology with the presumption that {as mentioned at the start} that a semi-circle of chairs has been arranged in the classroom. The photocopied myth after a brief introduction amongst class members is the following:

After reading the ongoing myth a brief discussion amongst members will take place regarding their feelings towards mythology and the ancient Gods. In turn students will be asked to form groups accordingly under various posters that have been pinned on the walls of the classroom. As a basis of forming members of the group they will be asked to sit according to their month of birth, i.e. from January to March and henceforth, thus forming diversity within the groups. At all times we have a movement of students from one spot to the next for the furniture will be placed accordingly allowing this freedom of space. Students will then sit under one of the ascribed posters and express aloud with a justification in their answer what feelings each season arouses in them.

            A diversity of opinion is accepted by one and all for this is the spice of life. For starters we could begin with those who have chosen SUMMER as their favorite season. Our holidays have just ended and without doubt it is time to return to work. Using this as a stepping stone we can create a basis for other themes. One such theme may be to write a letter of application for a ‘summer job’ whereas another  group may be responsible for designing an advertisement  for a travel agency drawing tourists to their country.
